Different ways of making coffee

28.04.2023

Probably millions of people all over the world are united by one very common habit – drinking coffee, which is part of the morning ritual. Some enjoy the taste, for others it is an essential part of the waking process. While our coffee drinking habits may be similar, the way in which coffee ends up in our cup can vary greatly. However, the way we prepare our coffee and the beans we use to make it will determine the final taste.

Instant coffee or soluble coffee

Making instant coffee is extremely simple – coffee grounds in a cup, hot water, steep for a while, stir and drink immediately. A coarser grind is more suitable, as the water is in direct contact with the coffee. Although soluble coffee is extremely easy to make, it is not as tasty as instant coffee because it generally contains more residues and is made from beans that are not as high quality. In addition, if you make yourself a pot of coffee by picking up coffee grounds with a spoon, it is difficult to achieve a consistent taste with every cup, as our method of measuring is not always the same.

French press or press coffee

Probably some of us have a press pot at home – a simple tool when you need to make coffee quickly for a large number of people, for example. To make it, you pour the coffee grounds into the jug, add hot water, let the mixture steep a little and then push the grounds into the bottom of the jug. It’s not a good idea to leave this coffee brewing for too long, because the longer the coffee is in contact with the water in the pot, the more caffeine and other bittering agents are released, which will affect the taste of our cuppa.

Filter coffee

Filter coffee is made using either a filter cone or a filter machine. Unlike the above-mentioned methods, filter coffee takes much longer to mature. In addition, filter coffee is more difficult to determine the strength of the coffee. The finer the grind, the more intense the flavour of the coffee will be, as the brewing time will be longer because the water will flow more slowly through the coffee.

Mocha pot coffee

To make this coffee, you need a stove on which to place the pot – steam pressure is used to push water through the ground coffee. Mocha pots originated in Italy, and of all the brewing methods mentioned above, this one achieves the closest taste to espresso. Again, the biggest drawback is achieving the right coffee strength and the time it takes to prepare.

Espresso machine coffee

Unlike the above-mentioned ways of making coffee, espresso machines are among the easiest to use and clean. In addition to espresso, capsule coffee makers can also be used to make delicious milky coffees such as lattes or cappuccinos. With a capsule coffee machine, you can always be sure that no matter how many cups you make, the taste will always be consistently good and the aroma pleasant.
